My name is SITI FITRIAH. Those words are taken from Arabic which always indicates to Muslim. Siti is same as “syayidati”. Siti or syayidati means “princess”. Syayidati is so complicated to be spoken by Javanese, so Javanese say “siti”. In Javanese, siti also has own meaning. It is “land”, because basically human is created from the land. Most of women who have “siti” as their name, they must be Muslim. Besides that, it also indicates someone as a Javanese. The word “fitriah” of my name means “pure or holy”. My parents give “fitriah” as my name because according to their story I was born in Idul Fitri air.
Then, I conclude the meaning of “Siti Fitriah” is “a pure princess”. Through my name, Siti Fitriah, everyone will directly figure out that I am Javanese Muslim who is black sweet and wearing veil. Although Siti is the first word of my name, I am not called Siti. I was called “Pipit” by my friends who live around my house. I was called “Fitriah” by my teachers and friends in senior high school (because there were two “Fitri” in class, so they add “-ah” in the end my name to differentiate). In my college, everyone calls me “Fitri” (because there is only one “Fitri” in 2010 cohort).

Siti and Fitriah are common names. I ever felt my name was not really good. There were many other good and cool names around. I ever modified my name to be a bit modern (because I felt that my name was so traditional), but it was useless because my friends were already familiar with that name. Sometimes when I am alone, I am thinking and imagining when someone calls me with my name and I will give my attention to him/her. They say “Fitri”, I always whisper this word to myself and I love this whispering, I love this name. It is a great name ever. When I want to do something bad/wrong, I will have a look to my name and say to myself “Fitri, you are pure, your parents believe that you are a pure princess and your God will be always beside you to keep your purity”. I feel that I have a big responsibility of this name.
I know that it is not only because my birthday is in Idul Fitri air so my parents give “Fitri” as my name. They want me to be a woman who can keep and take care of myself. There are much evidence which proved this. The simplest evidence is my parents allow/permit me to go wherever I want to go. They never told me the reason why they give me the big freedom, but I just trust to myself that they do that because they always pray for me and believe in me (that I can filter bad/good things, solve my problem, and keep myself being secure).
I love this name. My name is me. It is not only appropriate, even it is in my own body and soul. I will never think to change my name. I am proud of my own name.
